CloakScan Chrome extension
Privacy policy
CloakScan helps you review text before sharing it. You paste text into the Chrome side panel yourself, choose Scan locally, review the cleaned output, and choose whether to copy it.
What happens to your text
- The extension processes pasted text locally in your browser to find and replace supported sensitive patterns. It does not send scanned or cleaned text to CloakScan servers or third parties. CloakScan has no backend, account system, analytics, or telemetry.
- Source text, findings, and cleaned output remain in the side panel's memory. The extension does not save them in persistent storage. Clear removes them from the panel; unloading the panel discards its in-memory state.
- The extension saves only your selected scan profile and output mode in its local browser storage, so those choices are ready next time. Removing the extension also removes its saved preferences.
- Copy cleaned text writes the visible cleaned output to the system clipboard only when you click it. Your operating system and any app you later paste into control what happens to that copied text.
Browser access
The extension requests only Chrome's sidePanel permission so its toolbar icon can open the panel. It requests no host permissions, uses no content scripts, and cannot read your browsing history or webpage contents. It does not scan pages or forms automatically.
Your review still matters
Automated detection can miss sensitive information. Read the cleaned text before you share it. CloakScan does not guarantee anonymization.
Limited use
CloakScan follows the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. Text you choose to paste is used only for the local scan you request. We do not transfer it to others, use it for advertising, or allow anyone working on CloakScan to read it.
